New Orleans native takes New York Times news helm

New Orleans native Dean Baquet was named executive editor of The New York Times on Wednesday afdter publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. fired Jill Abramson.
Baquet, who had been managing editor, is the newspaper's first African-American newsroom leader.
He was been the Times M.E. since 2011 and previously was an editor at The Los Angeles Times. He is a Pulitzer Prize winner.
Abramson, 60, had been with the New York Times Co. for 17 years.
Sulzberger did not elaborate on his decision to make the change.
