Two brothers, unbelted, die when Corvette leaves roads, pinballs trees
Two brothers died when the Corvette they were in left La. 70 and pinballed through several trees.
State Police Troop C reports the brothers were unrestrained in the crash that occurred at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The 2008 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling west on La. 70 at a high rate of speed, police said.
The Corvette entered a right hand curve on La. 70 and the driver lost control, police said. The Corvette crossed the centerline and began to rotate counter clockwise as it traveled off the left side of the highway, police said.
The Corvette struck several trees causing the two unrestrained occupants to be ejected.
Police identified the occupants as Todd Ponville, 48, of Pierre Part, and Troy Ponville, 49, of Napoleonville, were pronounced dead on the scene by a Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office representative, police said.
Due to the circumstances, it is unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, police said.
Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash, police said.
