Medal sought to honor WWII priest’s service

Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., R-Alto, is leading the effort in the U.S. House of Representatives to bring long overdue recognition for the heroism of Lt. Joseph Verbis Lafleur, an Army chaplain who sacrificed his life in World War II.

A TIME TO REMEMBER

Lee Earl Aucoin’s name is among the names inscribed on one of the monuments at the Veterans Memorial brick-courtyard, located at Park Avenue and South 2nd Street in Eunice.
Aucoin’s name is also associated with VFW Post 8971, Doucet-Aucoin, in Eunice.

Irma Darphin, of Iota, is one of the last World War II Army nurses in the state. She helped to treat soldiers injured in the Battle of the Bulge.
