Currier elected to District #4 seat

Neil Currier won out in the October 4th election over Amite City Councilman Buddy Till. This was Currier's first time running for a public seat and is scheduled to be sworn into office in January.

Currier has lived in Amite "nearly all of my life. I an a graduate of Amite High School and run my own business," stated Currier.

Currier is the owner/operator of CC Currier Electric and Plumbing. He has been in that business for 23 years. Currier has also been a member of the Amite Kiwanis Club for many year as was his father.

When asked why he decided to run for office Currier replied, "I really just wanted to get involved. My father was on the council for two terms and fire chief for many years."

When asked what his plans are when he takes office Currier stated, "I have a pretty good knowledge as far as water and drainage go, so I would like to work closely with the city on this matter." He also stated that there are some programs for children and senior citizens he would like to see implemented.

"I want to get things done to improve Amite. I would like to get with other council members and re-vitalize our downtown area. We need to bring business in and bring downtown back to life. I plan to get with the council and see what can be done to get this accomplished," Currier said.

Currier also commented that he would like to see the council become more unified for the betterment of Amite.

He has attended each meeting of the Amite City Council since announcing his plans to run for office. He has taken note of the current issues and plans to continue some of the work started by Councilman Till such as the "Oak Forest Right-of-Way."
