Plane crashes near Basile, FAA called

No injuries were reported when this two-seater airplane crashed in a field at the western edge of Acadia Parish around noon on Saturday. Acadia Parish Sheriff’s officials said the pilot, Eric Chauvin of Baton Rouge, was headed for a landing strip at D.I.’s Restaurant and came up short, landing instead in a field of rye grass off Harry Doucet Road. A Baton Rouge pilot escaped injury when the small plane he was piloting flipped over in a field near Basile during landing just after noon Saturday.
