An old out-of-state friend called to touch base, and asked, “how are y’all doing down there?” I told him we were hanging in there, in spite of what seems to be one confrontation and tragedy after another.
The numbers are staggering. Thirty-one inches of rain in 15 hours in Livingston Parish alone, 13 people dead across five parishes, 20 parishes designated as disaster areas, and more than 30,000 residents and 1,400 pets rescued.
As the clean-up process continues in homes that flooded across south Louisiana, LSU AgCenter housing specialist Claudette Reichel offers advice on what flooring should be removed, what can be salvaged, and how to clean and disinfect flooring.
