Flood damage to houses in the nine-parish One Acadiana region are estimated from $81 million to $253 million, according to a report by Jason El Koubi, president and CEO, sent to the regional chamber of commerce’s board members.
The assessment is about the Aug. 13 flooding.
Cattle owners had to rely on horses, boats and even a helicopter to round up their herds as floodwaters covered pastures in many areas of south Louisiana.
At the request of the President F. King Alexander, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation has established the LSU Employee Assistance Fund to help LSU employees who are affected by disasters and hardships such as the recent flood.

A series of meetings throughout south Louisiana were held by Mike Strain, commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, to assure farmers that state and federal aid is available to help them get through the flooding crisis.

In response to record levels of flooding across south Louisiana, state offices in 27 parishes were shut down on Monday and Tuesday as essential personnel turned their attention to ongoing search and rescue operations.
