2014 Class C All-State teams announced

After leading their teams to state titles, Destiny Simon and Javier Roper have been named the Most Valuable Players in Class C by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Simon, a 5-foot-10 center from Hackberry, landed the award and a spot on the LSWA’s Class C girls first team after averaging 21.6 points per game and leading the Mustangs to their first state title since winning three in a row from 2002-04.
Roper, New Living Word’s 6-6 junior center, averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game while leading the Lions to the first state title in the school’s four-year history in the LHSAA.
Simon’s coach, Jay Bergeron, was named the girls Coach of the Year, while Sicily Island coach Curtis Shavers, who guided the Fighting Tigers to their first Top 28 runner-up finish, earned the boys Coach of the Year honor.
Joining Simon on the girls first team were Summerfield’s Nicole Bursey, Elizabeth senior Erin Maddox, Plainview sophomore Shy Thompson and Simon’s Hackberry teammate, senior Jolie Trahan.
Bursey, a 5-7 sophomore, scored 10.1 points per game on a balanced Summerfield squad that was the Class C girls runner-up. The 5-7 Maddox (12 ppg) and 5-5 Thompson (14 ppg) led their teams to the Ladies Top 28, while Trahan finished the season averaging 11.3 points per game.
