Bieber, Brown shine at District 5-1A meet
PORT ALLEN – The St. Edmund Blue Jays finished second and the Lady Jays finished fourth in the District 5-1A meet, swept by host Catholic High of Pointe Coupee.
St. Edmund’s Heidi Bieber won both Outstanding Field Performer and District 5-1A MVP, while Blue Jay Cullen Brown was named boys Outstanding Track Performer.
The Hornets won the boys competition with 149 points, while St. Edmund battled for second with 137 points.
Basile (132.5) finished third, followed by False River Academy (60.5), Westminster Christian Academy (43) and North Central (30).
Cullen Brown won both the 110-meter hurdles (16.13) and the 300-meter hurdles (41.61)
Brown finished third in the high jump (5-8) and was the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished third (3:55.51).
Jack Miller won the pole vault (11-0), followed by team mate Jacques Soileau (9-6).
John Hull won the javelin (139-0) and was fourth in the triple jump (36-6).
Gibson LaFleur finished second in the long jump (20-3) and third in the 200-meter dash (23.80).
Gus Brown was third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:33.74.
The Jays finished third in the 4x200-meter relay (1:36.74) and fourth in the 4x100-meter relay (48.13).
Jacque Richard was third in the shot put with a throw of 38-6.
John Ross Guillory finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (57.39), while William Manuel was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:28.53).
CHPC won the girls title with 136 points, followed by Westminster (118), False River (104), St. Edmund (93), Basile (78) and North Central (24).
Bieber won the javelin with a throw of 113-2 and finished second in the pole vault with a leap of 8-6.
Bieber finished second in the shot put (31-9) and finished fourth in the discus (77-3).
Abby Brown won the pole vault with a height of 8-6.
Mallory Allain won the shot put with a toss of 32-1.
Alison Turk finished second in the 400-meters with a time of 1:06.49.
Kasey Lafleur finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 56.69.
Alison Lafleur finished third in the long jump with a leap of 13-5.5.
Gabrielle Heinen finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 29-2.
The Lady Jay foursome of Turk, Abby Miller, Victoria McGee and Lafleur finished fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:55.81.
The regional meet will be held Tuesday at ULL in Lafayette.
The top four finishers in district advance to the regionals.
Field events are set for 1 p.m. with the running events at 5 p.m.
