Blue Jays cruise past FRA
NEW ROADS – The St. Edmund Blue Jays earned their first District 5-1A win of the season with a 10-3 win over False River Academy.
The Blue Jays (9-9, 1-1) travel to Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (9-6, 1-1) on Tuesday.
After three scoreless innings, the Jays exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth inning as St. Edmund began to pull away.
William Chachere singled and Drake Brunet was hit by a pitch before Gibson LaFleur reached on an error to load the bases.
Brock Bieber and Austin Gradney drew back-to-back walks to push across Chachere and Brunet.
Jacob Duplechin followed with a double to score LaFleur and Bieber as the Blue Jays led 4-0.
Philippe Aguillard singled in Grandey and Duplechin to extend the Jays’ lead to six runs.
After the Gators closed the gap to 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the Blue Jays responded with four runs in the sixth.
Chachere singled and Brunet followed with a home run to right field as the Jays led 8-2.
Bieber singled and scored when Gradney singled and stole second.
Grandey crossed home plate when Aguillard reached on an error for a 10-2 advantage.
FRA scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but the Gators couldn’t get any closer.
Chachere started on the mound for the Jays as he struck out six, walked four and allowed two runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings.
Gibson Lafleur got the win in relief as he pitched one inning with one strikeout and two hits.
Bieber went 3-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and two runs scored.
Chachere went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Duplechin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Aguillard went 1-for-4 with two RBI as Brunet finished 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored.
Gradney went 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and two runs scored.
LaFleur went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Cole Bergeron (1-for-5) and Jack Miller (1-for-4) had the other Jay hits.
