Bobcats clip SHVP, 8-6
The Eunice Bobcats claimed an 8-6 victory over the Sacred Heart Trojans in Acadiana Metro League play at Bobcat Field on Wednesday.
Coach Danny Soileau’s squad trailed 2-1 after one inning of play before taking a 3-2 lead with two runs in the third inning.
The Cats added to their lead with two runs in their fourth inning thanks to singles by Austin Manuel and Trevor Sattler, followed by a double from Jaden Brasseaux.
The Trojans regained the lead in the top of the fifth with four runs to grab a 6-5 advantage. But the Cats responded in the bottom of the fifth with two runs to regain the lead at 7-6.
Christian Taylor drew a walk with one out and was replaced on base by pinch runner Brady Smith. Smith advanced to second on a single by Manuel and both runners scored when an outfield fly by Ian George was dropped for an error.
Eunice scored an eighth run in the bottom of the sixth as Jonas Granger walked and advanced to second on a Brasseaux sacrifice bunt.
Granger scored on a single by Gunner Fontenot.
Grange, in relief, earned the victory by retiring the final out in the Trojans’ fifth inning.
Brandon Martel came on to earn the save for the Bobcats with two shutout innings.
Martel did not allow a hit, while walking one and striking out two.
The Cats finished with eight hits for the game, led by Fontenot, Granger, and Manuel with two apiece. Brasseaux had a double, while Zac Guillory and Taylor each had a single.
The Bobcats, now 5-0, will host Mamou and Notre Dame on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
Junior varsity games begin at 5p.m. with varsity games to follow at 6:30 p.m.
