Bobcats split games in Midland tourney

MIDLAND – The Eunice High Bobcats split in decisions against Carencro High and David Thibodeaux High in their opening games in the Midland High School Tournament.
In their opening game against Carencro, the Bobcats fell behind 15-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Cats cut into the Bears’ lead with a 17-14 advantage in the second quarter to trail 29-26 at halftime.
The Bobcats outscored the Bears 14-12 in the third quarter to pull within two points at 42-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
The final eight minutes proved decisive, however, as Carencro prevailed by outscoring the Cats by a 22-12 margin for a 64-52 victory.
Paul Hebert led the scoring for the Cats with 13 points.
Ron Shillow added ten and Travis Godfrey finished with seven for Eunice High.
The leading scorer for Carencro was Corey Willis with 23 points.
Colin St. Julien finished with 11 points, all coming in the fourth quarter.
Jacob Siner and Jauvon George added 10 points apiece.
In the second game against David Thibodeaux High, the first quarter ended in a 10-10 tie. But the Bobcats began to pull away with a 14-5 advantage in the second quarter for a 24-15 lead at the half.
The Bobcats (5-9) extended their lead to 38-26 after three quarters before finishing the game with a 20-19 fourth quarter advantage for a 58-45 victory.
Shillow and Godfey shared the scoring lead for the Bobcats with 15 points apiece. Darious Richard added nine and Hebert chipped in with seven.
J’vante Epps led David Thibodeaux High with 15 points. Marion Baker added 11 points in the losing effort.
After Monday’s game at DeRidder, the Bobcats will entertain Iowa on Friday.
