Bulldogs jump past Bobcats

JENNINGS – The Jennings Bulldogs used a three-run fourth inning to propel themselves to a 6-4 victory over the Eunice Bobcats here Monday night in Acadiana Metro League action.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in their first inning on a leadoff single, a sacrifice bunt, a wild pitch and an error. The Bobcats tied the game with a run in the third. Hayden West drew a walk from starting pitcher Tyler Trahan and stole second base. Gunner Fontenot singled to advance West to third, and Jordan Comeaux drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.
Comeaux, the Eunice starting hurler, set the side down in order in the second and third innings, but he ran into trouble in the fourth. Two singles and a two-run double put the Dogs up 3-0 before a wild pitch enabled the fourth run to score. Comeaux gave up four hits, walked one, and struck out two in his four innings of work.
The Cats scored a run in the fourth with Caleb Taylor drawing a wakl, advancing to second on a balk and to third on a fly out off the bat of Logan Dischler. Taylor scored when Alex Richard reached base on an error.
The Cats cut the lead to 4-3 with another run in the fifth. Comeaux had a double in the inning and scored on a single by Wes Hebert. A base running snafu in the inning cost the Cats another run.
The Bulldogs added a run in bottom of the fifth off Eunice reliever Logan Manuel to take a 5-3 lead. The Cats got that run back in the top of the sixth when Dischler walked and stole second and scored on a double by Fontenot.
The Dogs pushed across a sixth run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Cats threatened in the seventh as Comeaux singled and Hebert reached on an error. Both runners moved up a base on Christian Lejeune’s sacrifice bunt, but they were left stranded as Bulldog reliever Kendrick Lejeune retired the side thanks to a double play and a groundout to end the game.
Fontenot and Comeaux led the Eunice offense with three hits apiece. Hebert and Manuel added other the other hits for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will play in a tournament in Rayne on Saturday, facing Livonia at 10 a.m and St. Martinville at noon.
