Bulldogs run past Jays, 7-3
The Iota offense exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth inning as the Bulldogs earned a 7-3 win over St. Edmund Tuesday at Blue Jay Field.
Iota took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Chase Doucet bunted and scored when Devin Mouton reached on a fielder’s choice.
After threatening in the first two innings, St. Edmund (3-6) grabbed a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, begun as Jacob Duplechain doubled and scored on John Hull’s triple up the middle.
Cole Bergeron then doubled in Hull for a 2-0 lead before he scored on a passed ball.
The Bulldogs (5-4) opened the fourth inning with a double by Hunter Andrus and a single from Trey Rambin, but both were put out by Blue Jay catcher Gibson LaFleur.
Iota’s two-out rally began when Doucet reached on a bunt and scored on a Blue Jay error.
Cade Covalt bunted and scored on a single by Mouton.
Brett Spell reached on a fielder’s choice and Will Doughty drilled a triple to plate Mouton and Spell as Iota led, 5-3.
Doughty scored on Hunter Wriborg’s single as the Bulldogs extended its lead to three runs.
Iota added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Mouton reached on a bunt-error and later crossed home plate on a single to right by Wriborg.
After the weekend tourament, St. Edmund will entertain DeRidder at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, while Iota travels to Church Point.
