Lady Cats win thriller

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats improved their record to 2-0 with a 56-55 victory over the Iowa High Lady Yellow Jackets in basketball action at the Bobcat gym on Monday night.
Coach Durrel Peloquin’s Lady Bobcats had to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter to earn the win. The Lady Cats outscored the Lady Jackets by an 18-12 margin in the final quarter for the win.
Neither team was able to pull away in the early going, with Iowa holding just a 13-10 lead after one quarter. The Lady Jackets maintained the lead by a 26-20 margin at the half. Ashley Washington and DaShaya Vigers topped the Lady Cats with eight points apiece in the first half. Bethany Broussard had 13 points to lead the Lady Jackets in the first half.
A quick start in the third quarter cut the Lady Jackets’ lead to 27-26, but the Lady Jackets were able to pull back ahead with a late run to lead 43-38 heading into the fourth quarter. Dashaya Vigers had eight points and Beulah Bradley added six to lead the Lady Cats in the third quarter. Broussard had eight to lead the Lady Jackets.
Thanks to a three-point field goal by Haley Jack and a drive to the basket by Vigers, and a short jumper by Kate McLemore, the Lady Cats tied the game at 47-47 with 5:51 left in the game. An exchange of baskets kept the game tied at 49-49, but a defensive stop and pass from Mia Lejeune to Vigers on a break put the Lady Cats ahead by a 51-49 at the 2:30 mark.
After Danae Williams hit a bucket to tie the game once again, Jack nailed another three-point goal to pull the Lady Cats ahead by a 54-51 lead with 2:11 left on the clock. A minute later, the Lady Jackets cut the lead to one. But Washington responded with a goal on a feed from McLemore to give the Cats a three-point lead. Iowa got one more basket in the final minute, but the Lady Cats held on for the win.
Vigers scored 20 points the Lady Bobcats to top all scorers. Washington added 12, while Jack and Bradley finished with eight apiece. Broussard finished with 17 and Tiny Charlot added 16 to lead the Lady Yellow Jackets in scoring.
Amazingly, the Lady Bobcats claimed the victory despite going zero for 15 at the free throw line. Iowa managed to make four of 10 from the line.
