Lady Jays trounce WCA

BELLEVUE – St. Edmund jumped back into the District 5-1A title hunt as the Lady Jays cruised to an 11-1 win at Westminster Christian Academy.
With the win, the Lady Jays improve to 10-11 overall and 2-1 in district play.
Weather permitting, St. Edmund will face WCA again at 4 p.m. today for Senior Day.
St. Edmund scored in the top of the second inning when Kasey LaFleur doubled amd courtesy runner Katherine Leger crossed home plate on Kelli Richard’s double.
WCA tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second when Destiny Ledoux hit a home run over the left field fence.
The Lady Jays retook the lead in the top of the third frame when Abby Miller reached on an error, stole second and then scored as Sydney Thibodeaux also advanced on a WCA miscue.
St. Edmund moved ahead 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning as Gabby Fontenot reached on an error, LaFleur doubled and Victoria McGee’s hit drove in both runners.
Olivia McDaniel walked in the top of the sixth and scored when Fontenot drew a bases-loaded walk to push the Lady Jays ahead, 5-1.
St. Edmund exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach, 11-1.
McGee walked and scored on Abby Miller’s sacrifice.
Elissa David reached on a fielder’s choice, McDaniel walked and Heidi Bieber belted a home run to push the Lady Jays ahead, 8-1.
The inning continued as Thibodeaux and Fontenot both walked and then scored on McGee’s hit to left field.
Lafleur earned the complete game win as she struck out five, walked one and allowed five hits.
Lafleur helped her own cause as she went 3-for-4 with a walk.
