Blaze destroys Veillon home on North 2nd

A persistent roaring fire destroyed a home on North 2nd Street Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to a fire report shortly before 11 a.m. As units arrived, flames were already shooting through the roof and out windows of the other older structure. Its owner, Sylvia Veillon, escaped the burning structure.

The firefighters deployed a number of small and large lines in an effort to successfully keep the blaze from jumping to houses on either side.
