Lynn LeJeune is president of the newly organized Friends of the LSU Eunice Library. Other officers are Art Schroeder, treasurer, and Dr. Christina Vic, secretary.

The City Council will discuss how to correct washouts that are threatening the Sittig Street and Faris Street Fire Stations.

The two-year associate degree program in nursing at LSU Eunice has been nationally accredited. Theresa deBeche is head of the Division of Nursing and Allied Health.

Basile lost to Southern Lab 49-6 in the Class 1A football semi-finals, their first appearance there since 1963.

Two children were killed when a vehicle made an improper left turn on East Laurel, causing their vehicle to overturn after the collision.

The City Council approved a May referendum on a new pay plan for the police department. It would be funded by a six-mill property tax.
Eunice High’s Harry Frank was named St. Landry Parish defensive player of the year in coaches’ voting. He is a 6-8, 245-pound defensive end.

St. Edmund players on the all-district football team include Benjie Miller, center; Doug Summerlin, guard; Jason Daire, defensive line; Kevin Darbonne, defensive back and punter.

Ted Joubert has been appointed to the Zoning Commission, taking the seat vacated by Dale Soileau when he was elected to the City Council.

Eunice High all-district selections include Bobby Hamous, center; Andre Vige, quarterback; Harry Frank, defensive end; Franco Guillory, linebacker and Edmundo Truit, defensive back. Frank is MVP on defense.

Mayor Ken Peart said a new turning lane at La. 13 and Laurel is expected to become a reality early next year.

The last official audit of Moosa Memorial before it signed on with Louisiana Hospital Systems of Lafayette shows a $2 million deficit.
