New faculty and staff at LSU Eunice this fall include Dr. Niaz Latif, engineering; Shahin Shabanian, physics; James Robinson, criminal justice  and sociology; Pei-chun Wan, computer science; Partrick Richard, general librarian; Jacqueline Fruge, counselor; Genevieve Rozas, writing lab coordinator and Walton Sellers, III, history.

Services were held for pioneer Eunice businessman Lewis Sam Uzzo, who died at age 86. He founded the 7-Up Bottling Works in 1925 and was best known for his U-Zo brand soft drinks in cream soda and strawberry flavors.

The Eunice News has become a member of The Associated Press, which is replacing service formerly provided by UPI, according to to News GM Darrell Guillory.

Four newly decorated rooms especially for children have been put into service at Moosa Memorial Hospital. One is the Ronald McDonald Room, made possible by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barnes, owners of the restaurant here.

Sen. J. Bennett Johnston led the ground-breaking team for the Jean Lafitte Acadian Culture Center.

Services were held for Coach Gerald Wyble, Sr., who died at age 64. He was seven-man football coach at St. Edmund from 1951-1954 and was first coach for the 11-member team in 1955. In 1959, he went to Eunice High, where he coached and taught driver’s ed for 25 years. He was one of the founders of the Eunice youth baseball program.

Police Chief Tony Fuselier intends to begin issuing warning tickets to motorists who insist on parking longer than the allotted one hour in the Second Street Downtown Shopping Plaza spaces.

Nine-year Chamber of Commerce executive vice president Walter A. Miller is retiring, he has told president Gil Young.

Eunice City Judge Lynette Feucht has been elected treasurer for the Louisiana City Court Judges Association.
