Dining with Chefs

scheduled tonight

 Dining with the Chefs, a fund-raising holiday demonstration, will be held at Northwest Community Center today from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

The event benefits MyMissions.

Danielle Bozyone and Melanie Christie (salad), Margaret Fontenot (main meal) and Denise Aguillard (dessert) will be the demontrating chefs.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at Classic Cuts and Sunsports.

JA of Eunice host StoryTime Sat.

The Junior Auxiliary of Eunice and the Eunice Public Library will present a reading of “Goodnight Tiger Stadium”,  with author Paige Ashby. on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Eunice Library.

All attendees are encouraged to dress in LSU attire. 

 

Dinner and movie night set Saturday

 The St. Mathilda Altar Society will sponsor a Dinner & Movie night at the Bishop Ceasar Center on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. 

A donation of $10 per ticket will be accepted. 

 

Mamou 5:16 host Skate Night Sat.

The Mamou 5:16 will sponsor a free Skate Night in Mamou on Saturday for all ages. Doors open at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Refreshments will be on sale. This event is sponsored by area churches.

 

 

Germanfest set

for Sat.-Sunday

The 19th Annual Roberts Cove Germanfest is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove, in Rayne.

Activities will be held from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. 

There promises to be plenty of traditional Cove German foods, German cultural activities, folklore, music, dancing and other great food and drinks.

ECCBC Rehearsals begin on Monday

Christmas rehearsals will soon be  under way as the Eunice Community Concert Band & Choir prepares for its Christmas Concert Dec. 12 & 13.

The ECCBC will begin rehearsals on Monday (Choir, First Baptist Church) and Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. (Concert Band, Liberty Center) for the 2013 Christmas concert.

Public Square Rosary set Oct. 12

The Public Square Rosary Crusade coordinated by “America Needs Fatima,” will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 12 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church’s Rosary garden. Thousands of rosaries will be recited at this time across America as Christians pray for America and world peace.

The public is invited.

Cycle for Hospice

scheduled Oct. 12

LAFAYETTE – The second annual Cycle for Hospice of Acadiana will be held Oct. 12 in the Oil Center.

Cyclists can choose a 25- or 50-mile route, both beginning and ending at the Oil Center.

Registration is $30 before Oct. 10 and includes a complimentary breakfast, a free shirt for the first 100 participants, and various door prize opportunities. The ride will be followed by a raffle drawing for a $500 gift certificate to Capitol Cyclery.

Aviation Fun Day

scheduled Oct. 12

Lafayette Regional Airport will hold its 24th Aviation Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) station located at 224 Tower Dr. This event is for children ages 5-12 only. Space is limited to the first 250 children to register.  

In addition to games and activities, children will see a firefighting demonstration from the ARFF team and a bus tour of the airfield that begins at 10:45 a.m. Lunch will be provided.

For safety and security reasons, parents must pre-register every child attending online at lftairport.com or by calling the airport office at 266-4401.  All children must be supervised by a parent.

The Chat-A-While Social & Civic Club and Eunice Bulb & Blossom Garden Club will sponsor a Candlelight Vigil and Walk for Domestic Violence Awareness month on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. beginning at E. City Hall.

Sanctuary of Praise Children Retreat

The Sanctuary of Praise Church in Mamou will host a Children’s Retreat, for grades 1-6, at ABC (Acadian Baptist Center) in Richard on Oct. 18 & Oct. 19.

Cameron’s Shoes 5K set Oct. 26

The third annual Cameron’s Shoes 5K & Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 beginning at 8 a.m. at Eunice City Hall.

Cameron’s Shoes is a foundation which collects new and used shoes to distribute to underprivileged in Colombia.  Proceeds from annual race helps fund shipping cost of shoes.

Registration fee is $30 with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.  

Those participating can donate new and gently used shoes.

Hunter Ed Course set Oct. 28-30

A Hunter Education Safety Course will be offered on Monday, Oct. 28, Tuesday, Oct. 29 and Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge 105 at West Park in Eunice.

VFW Post offers scholarships

Commander Gene J. Olivier of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post  8971 announces the kick-off of the 67th year of the VFW and its Ladies
Auxiliary Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition. 

Local high school students have the opportunity to compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and a trip to Washington, D.C.

Students must write and record a three-to-five minute essay on this theme for 2013-2014: “Why I’m Optimistic About our Nation’s Future” on an audio cassette tape or Audio CD and present their recording, typed essay, and entry form at their local VFW Post. St. Francis Fall Bazaar set Nov. 16

St. Francis School in Iota will host its annual Fall Bazaar on Nov. 16 & 17. 

Activities begin Saturday with a 5K run at 8 a.m. Opening ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. in the school courtyard. 

There will be games, face painting, music, concession and a sweet shop with our delicious sweet dough pies. 

Saturday, Colby Latiolais and Ambush will play from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.  

On Sunday, Nov. 17 there will be barbecue chicken dinners available for $8 per plate.
