Toys for Tots application ends Friday

Needy families still have time to get on Santa's "nice list" for the holiday season.
Friday marks the last day for applicants to the Toys For Tots program.
For this his third year, Eunice Fire Chief Michael Arnold said that he’s gearing up to play Santa Claus for families in need in Eunice.
“The reason that I’m a firefighter is that I like to help other people, that’s what I do,” said Arnold. “Unfortunately, most of the time in our line of work, we help people when they are at their worst: fire, medical, car wrecks. This is a chance to help people in a more social atmosphere, and do something good for them besides piecing them back together.”
The Eunice Fire Department is currently taking applications, for those who may qualify for the program, until Friday of this week.
Toys For Tots is a nationwide program to assist needy kids,13 and under, sponsored by the United States Marine Corps.
Arnold said that applications will be submitted to the Lafayette chapter of the USMC on Monday. He said that the toys will be delivered in time for Christmas.
“We broker the program is what we do, we accept applications and bring them to the Marines in Lafayette,” said Arnold. “Marines fill the toy order and they send them back to us and we distribute them.”
Once the applications are processed, the Eunice Fire Department will call the qualified family members– who must show up at the announced distribution site with a valid form of identification to receive the toys.
Arnold said that while taking applications for folks to receive toys from the Marines, the Eunice Fire Department is also accepting toy and money donations from citizens– who wish to donate to local children family in time for Christmas.
