Weapons of choice in alleged Acadia abuse cases: belt, extension cord
Deputies have arrested three Acadia Parish residents in two separate alleged child abuse cases.
Sheriff Wayne Melancon said Kelly Dugas, 32, of Church Point is charged with battery with a dangerous weapon.
Her alleged victim was seven years old and the alleged weapon was a belt.
Her bond was set at $5,000.
He said Michael Champagne, 24, and his wife Irene, 24, are charged with two counts of battery with a dangerous weapon, in this case allegedly an extension cord.
Their alleged victims are ages 3 and 5, Melancon said.
Their bond was set at $10,000 each.
The Dugas case is based on a Dec. 16 incident; the Champagne case on a Dec. 20 incident.
