With motor vehicle injuries being the leading cause of death among children under the age of 14 in Louisiana, Kergan Bros. Sonic has raised $48,000 for the purchase of nearly 1,000 child safety car seats for Louisiana families in need.

Additional work by specialized contractors is anticipated to address the worst of the cracks in some newly paved roads in St. Landry Parish, engineers said recently.
Fifty-nine people had cast early ballots in the March 5 Eunice special election as of Wednesday afternoon.
Early voting continues through Saturday at registrar of voters’ offices.
There were 56 votes in St. Landry Parish and three in Acadia Parish.
