The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is reminding residents and businesses located in and around the Morganza Spillway area to make preparations in advance of the potential river flooding in the region.

Jan. 19
Tuesday, January 19 is the day the Louisiana Department of Revenue begins accepting and processing 2015 state individual income tax returns. The filing deadline is Monday, May 16.
The department enters this tax season with a focus on safeguarding taxpayers against fraud.
The St. Landry Parish Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Old City Market, 131 W. Bellevue St., Opelousas, for a regular meeting, which include a public hearing. The agenda is attached.

A prayer breakfast celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. presented reminders that the United States continues its struggle to travel the road blazed by the civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1968 at the age of 39.
