About two out of five voters are closely following the gubernatorial campaign, up from just 25 percent last spring, a new survey from the Manship School of Mass Communication’s Reilly Center for Media and Public Affairs reports.

Citing a number of grass fires in St. Landry Parish since Sept. 1, Parish President Bill Fontenot placed a burn ban into effect for the next 30 days or until further notice.
The announcement said the 60 grass fires have occurred since Sept. 1.

More than 900 St. Landry Parish voters have turned out so far during the early voting for the Oct. 24 elections, according to Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters.

Scott Fontenot, Ward 4 councilman and mayor pro tem, was named Eunice’s interim mayor during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
Claud “Rusty” Moody resigned as mayor on Oct. 7.
Fontenot is resigning his council position to take over the mayor’s job.
