At the opening of the 106th annual Rice Field Day at the Rice Research Station, there were droves of farmers and industry personnel on hand to learn all they could about the latest advances in rice from researchers and commissioners, professors and more.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s legalization of same-sex marriage, the Louisiana Justice of the Peace and Constable’s Association is awaiting an opinion from the state Attorney General’s Office on whether justices must perform marriages.

Purchasing a same-sex marriage license may be easier for same-sex couples than finding a religious house to marry in, and so far, one of the only religious denominations willing to marry these couples will be the Episcopal Church, according to Bishop Morris Thompson Jr.

Registration is open for the youth races of Petit Tour du Teche in Breaux Bridge Aug. 1 and for TDT’s “big” races – including the new ultra marathon, the 410 (miles) de Louisiane – in the fall.
