Fatal Crash in Eunice claims life of Opelousas Man [UPDATED]

An early morning, vehicle crash claimed the life of an Opelousas man and injured a Church Point man on Monday in Eunice.
According to the Eunice Police Department, shortly before 5 a.m. a severe crash was reported in the 1200 block of East Laurel Avenue.Officers on the scene learned that a 1997 Chevy pick up driven by Everett Sonnier, 55, of Church Point, struck the rear of a garbage disposal truck owned by Progressive Waste Solutions of Louisiana.
Walter Washington, 34, of Opelousas, La– who was one of the garbage disposal employees– was pinned between the vehicles and suffered severe injuries that resulted in his death.
Sonnier, the driver of the pick up, was transported to Lafayette General with severe injuries, according to Eunice police.
Washington was transported to AMC then to Lordes of Lafayette where he died as a result of his injuries.
According to the Eunice Police Department, the crash is still under investigation.
