Woman pleads to negilgent homicide in deaths of four children left unattended

A woman whose unattended children burned to death in a mobile home fire has pleaded guilty to four counts of negligent homicide.
Shaqueta McDade faces a possible five-year sentence on each count. Dist. Judge John Trahan will sentence her at a future date.
McDade was initially charged with four counts of second-degree murder, but a Louisiana Supreme Court ruling cause the charge to be changed.
In a Caddo Parish case, the court ruled a mother was incorrectly found guilty of second-degree murder because there was no evidence of intent to kill the child.
Four of McDade’s children burned to death on April 21 of this year.
A fifth was staying with relatives the night McDade left the other four, ranging in age from two to eight years, and went out to a Church Point club for the evening.
