Designed firm picked for vets' cemetery
Veterans Affairs Secretary Rodney Alexander said a Metairie firm has been picked to design the new Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
Meyer Engineering, selected by the Architectural Review Board, is also the architectural and engineering firm for the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, which is set to open next spring.
Alexander announced in October that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs approved funding for the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery after a decade of lobbying.
The 50-acre site is located near Interstate 20 off of U.S. 425 and Louisiana 137.
It will provide for the needs of about 35,000 veterans and their families.
The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs operates two other cemeteries, including Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville and Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery Fort Polk in Leesville.
