Addtional charges pending in pedestrian fatality

A Eunice man is charged with DWI after running over and killing a pedestrian late New Year’s Eve night on West Laurel.
Police said Wilbert Ned, 31, was driving his Crown Victoria eastbound when it struck Herbert Honeycutt, 53, of Eunice, who was trying to cross the highway just west of Bobcat Drive.
Honeycutt died a short time after being taken to Acadian Medical Center.
Police said Ned failed a field sobriety text and was taken into custody. At the Eunice Police Department, he allegedly refused to provide a proper breath sample and was taken to AMC, where a blood sample was drawn.
Ned, of 240 Natalie St., was released after posting $1,550 bond.
Police said additional charges are pending.
