Girl allegedly starts fire to end school day

A student allegedly upset that she had to go to school is charged with starting a fire she hoped would Northwest High.
St. Landry Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Captain Megan Vizena said, “Northwest High student, Shavera A. Welcome, was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail facing aggravated arson charges for setting a school bathroom trashcan on fire.”
Vizena stated, “On Friday, January 10, our office received a complaint from Northwest High School administrators stating a student had purposely ignited a fire in the girls bathroom. The student was identified to deputies as 17-year-old Shavera A. Welcome.”
“Welcome advised deputies she started the fire because she was upset that she was forced to go to school,” Vizena added.
Welcome is currently being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail with a $7,500 bond.
