Arcadia storms past Lady Jays
ARCADIA - Last year, St. Edmund grabbed a 53-48 regional round upset over Arcadia as the Lady Jays advanced to the Class 1-A state quarterfinals,
Thursday night, the Lady Hornets advenged that loss as Arcadia cruised to a 91-35 win.
Arcadia exploded for a 25-4 first quarter lead as Jami LeBouef and Maddie Andrus scored the only buckets for the Lady Jays in the period.
The Lady Hornets extended their lead with a 25-10 second quarter run.
Andrus scored five points, Sydney Thibodeaux added three points and Payton Crowell hit two free throws in the quarter.
Trailing 50-14 at the break, the Lady Jays were outscored 19-8 in the third period.
Andrus and Thibodeaux scored three points and Sam Bertrand added two free throws for St. Edmund.
Arcadia never slowed down as the Lady Hornets outscored St. Edmund 22-13 in the fourth quarter.
Crowell scored five points to finish with nine points.
Bertrand added three points to her five-point total.
Constance Fontenot pushed in a bucket, while LeBouef scored her fourth points of the game.
Andrus led St. Edmund with 10 points.
In other area scores, Iota grabbed a 68-48 win over Church Point, Ville Platte rolled to a 70-31 win over Thomas Jefferson, Country Day defeated Basile (45-30), while Tensas earned a 51-44 win over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
Mamou advanced with a 55-45 win over Kinder.
