Bobcats rally past Trojans

Gunner Fontenot’s single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Eunice Bobcats a 4-3 victory over the Sacred Heart Trojans in Acadiana Metro League action Wednesday evening at Bobcat Field.
The Cats loaded the bases on walks to Caleb Taylor and Logan Dischler along with an error that allowed Alex Richard to reach safely.
Fontenot broke the 3-3 tie with a single to left field that scored pinch runner Cade Richard from third base.
Pitching dominated the early innings of the game with the Trojans’ Philip Vidrine and the Cats’ Christian Lejeune dominating the opposing batters.
Vidrine worked two shutout innings, scattering two hits, walking one and striking out one. Lejeune worked three shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out three.
The Trojans scored the first runs of the game in the fourth against Eunice reliever Caleb Taylor. Garrick Fontenot doubled and scored on a single by Keaton Tate.
Tate would score on a single by Kaleb Soileau. Taylor retired the side with no further damage and followed that with two shutout innings.
The Bobcats cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
A.P. Sonnier was hit by a pitch to open the inning and went to third as Taylor and Dischler drew walks. Fontenot drove in Sonnier with a single before Trojan reliever Josh LaHaye retired the side.
The Cats scored two runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Wes Hebert walked to open the inning and Lejeune followed with a single before Sonnier walked to load the bases. Taylor drove home a run with a grounder and the other run scored on a single by Dischler.
Sacred Heart tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Soileau singled with one out and ended up at third base on an outfield error.
Brandon Hudspeth grounded out to score Soileau to tie the game.
The Cats were unable to score in their seventh and Bobcat reliever Alec Trosclair pitched a scoreless top of the eighth to set up the Bobcat rally in the bottom of the eighth. Trosclair earned the mound win.
The Bobcats’ next action comes on Monday when they travel to take on Jennings. On Wednesday, Eunice will host Crowley.
