Bobcats rally for close win

The Eunice High Bobcats staged two different comebacks during their 54-52 victory over the Port Barre High Red Devils in basketball action Monday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Bobcats, now 3-5 on the season, fell behind early as the Red Devils jumped ahead 7-0.
The Bobcats’ Travis Godfrey scored his team’s first goal at the 5:00 mark when he slammed down a missed shot to make it 7-2.
Port Barre’s Keshawn Fontenot responded with a conventional three-point play to extend the lead to 12-3.
The Cats kept some momentum by staying even with the Devils, who led 18-9 at the end of the quarter.
The Bobcats began to assert themselves in the second quarter, outscoring the Red Devils by a 20-11 margin to tie the game at 29-29 by halftime.
Malik Poullard led the Bobcats in that quarter with seven points, including two 3-point field goals.
The Red Devils reasserted themselves in the third quarter, winning the quarter by a 15-10 margin.
But the Bobcats responded in the final eight minutes of the game, outscoring the Red Devils by a 15-8 margin to claim the win.
Malik Poullard hit two more 3-point field goals as well as a free throw to lead the comeback with seven points.
Kevin Williams added a 3-point for the Cats as well in the final quarter while Godfrey converted three of four field goals in the fourth quarter to thwart any hope for the Red Devils.
Fontenot scored 11 points to lead Port Barre in scoring for the game. Kevin Bell and D’Angelo Vaughn-Allen contributed nine points apiece for the Red Devils.
Poullard and Williams shared top scoring honors for the Bobcats with 14 points apiece. Brandon Ndubueze contributed eight points and Halen Jack had six. Godfrey added five and Keithan Green added four.

PBHS 54, EHS 43
The Port Barre High Lady Red Devils jumped to an early lead and managed to hold off a late charge to clip the Eunice High Lady Bobcats by a 54-43 margin in basketball action Monday night at the Bobcat gym.
The Lady Devils outscored the Lady Cats by a 24-9 margin in the opening half to control the early going. Eunice trailed by a 33-14 margin at halftime.
But the Lady Cats began to surge back in the third quarter, outscoring Port Barre by a 14-5 margin to cut the lead to 38-28 by the start of the fourth quarter. Two free throws by Dashaya Vigers and a field goal by Skylar Ardoin cut the lead to 38-32 with five minutes left in the final quarter. But Lady Devil Rona Hardy made a crucial field goal to stall the Lady Cats comeback with four minutes remaining.
The Lady Cats would close the gap to eight points with two minutes left, but the Lady Devils would put the game away on another field goal by Hardy in the final minute.
Hardy would lead her team in scoring with 17 points. Hailey Revere added 14 and Sharona Hardy chipped in with nine.
Vigers led the Lady Bobcats with 18 points. Hali Jack also hit the double-figure mark with 13 points. Ardoin had seven, Mia Lejeune had four, and Alexa Jason had one to round out the Eunice scoring.
The Lady Cats (3-6) were scheduled to participate in the St. Landry Parish Tournament this week.
