Lady Jays fall 12-0 to CHPC
The Catholic High of Pointe Coupee Lady Hornets sealed the District 5-1A softball championship with a 12-0 win over St. Edmund Thursday.
The Lady Jays threatend in the bottom of the first when Sydney Thibodeaux singled and advanced to third base.
The Lady Hornets (12-9. 6-0) scored a run in the top of the second before exploding for six more in the third frame to pull away from the Lady Jays (11-13, 3-3).
Kenedie Richardson singled and scored on a sacrifice by Abbey Devillier.
The Hornets forged ahead as Maddie Landry, Sarah Welch singled, Katleyn Bellelo hit an RBI double.
Richardson was hit by a pitch and Ryann Bizette reached on an RBI error, while Bailey Hendrick advanced on a three-run error to push CHPC ahead, 7-0.
The Lady Hornets added a run in the top of the fourth when Blaire Bizette singled and scored on RBI by Bellelo.
St. Edmund tried to avoid the shut-out when Thibodeaux doubled in the bottom of the fourth, but was left stranded at third base again.
CHPC sealed the mercy-rule win with four runs in the fifth as Preslie Tuminello, Landry Blaire Bizette and Welch all scored.
St. Edmund’s Kelli Richard reached on an error in the bottom of the fifth but could not advance.
CHPC pitcher Ryann Bizette earned the win as she struck out two and allowed the two hits by Thibodeaux.
The Lady Jays close the regular season at home Tuesday against Kinder.
