Languages instructor

BATON ROUGE – Private services were held for retired research assistant at the Center of Civil Law studies and LSU classical languages instructor Nina Pugh. She died Sept. 30 at age 88.

She was active in a number of civic organizations and community projects. She was a charter memher and president of Community Advancement and past president of the Junior League. 

Survivors include a son and a daughter.

 

Southern U. Hall of Fame member

FRANKLINGTON – Services for Southern University Hall of Fame member Walter “Coach” Johnson will be Saturday. He died Oct. 1.

He was a two-term president of the Southern University National Alumni Federation, the first black principal of Franklinton High and chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Arrangements are by Crain and Sons.

 

Sixth-grade teacher

WEST MONROE – Services for long-time teacher Anna “Sally” Savage  Gullatt will be Friday. She died Oct. 1 at age 84.

She taught sixth grade at schools in Calcasieu, Jackson and Iberville Parishes, as well as St. John Catholic School in Plaquemine.

Survivors include two sons.

Arrangements are by Kilpatrick.
