Bobcats romp past Rayne in Metro finale

The Eunice Bobcats used an eight run second inning on their way to a 10-0 victory over the Rayne Wolves as both teams closed out the Acadiana Metro Baseball season Wednesday at Bobcat Field.
The Bobcats (8-3) scored a run in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Cade Richard drew a walk to open the inning and he advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jonas Granger. Richard later scored on a wild pitch.
But it was the eight-run second inning that ultimately decided the game. With one out, Logan Manuel was hit by a pitch, then stole second base. Zac Guillory reached on an error, allowing Manuel to score the Cats’ second run. Walks to Chrisitan Taylor and Jayden Brasseaux loaded the bases before Richard drove home two runners with a single for a 4-0 lead.
The inning continued with Granger drawing a walk and Gunner Fontenot driving in a run with a single for a 5-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Wes Hebert delivered the crowning blow when he launched a grand slam home run over the left field wall to put the Cats on top by a 9-0 margin.
The Wolves’ offense was held in check by Bobcat pitching for the remainder of the game. Starting pitcher Christian Taylor no-hit the Wolves over the first three innings, striking out six and hitting one batter. Gunner Fontenot relieved Taylor in the fourth, working two innings and allowing one hit. Fontenot struck out three and walked two. Christian Lejeune pitched the six inning for the Cats and retired the Wolves in order with three strikeouts.
The Cats ended the game by scoring a tenth run in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, pinch hitter Shelton Langley was hit by a pitch.
Kameron Givens drew a walk, putting runners at first and second. Langley would advance to third after tagging up on a fly out off the bat of Josh Youngblood. Langley scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
