Lady Bears down EHS

CHURCH POINT – The Church Point Lady Bears moved one step closer to a possible District 5-3A title with a 10-2 win over Eunice High Tuesday.
Church Point (9-11, 6-0) travels to top-ranked Pine Prairie (18-0, 4-0) today.
The No. 27 Lady Cats (7-7, 4-3) will entertain Port Barre at 5:30 p.m. today, fighting for third place in district and a playoff spot.
The Lady Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, begun when Morgan Guidry walked and scored on an error that allowed Talia Jones to reach base.
Taylor Broach hit with two outs to push across Jones and later stole home after a Lady Cat miscue.
Church Point added three more runs in the bottom of the second as the Lady Bears went through the batting order for the second straight inning.
Guidry reached on an error, Jones walked and Tobie Olivier cleared the bases with a home run over the centerfield fence.
The Lady Bears loaded the bases, but the Eunice defense stiffened to end the inning.
Eunice threatened in the top of the third when Caroline Mire walked, Darian Fontenot walked and Destiny Edwards was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Mire then crossed home when Mia Lejeune Rougeau drew a bases-loaded walk to close the gap to 6-1.
Church Point answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Olivier singled and scored on an error.
The Lady Bears added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to a 10-1 advantage.
Cassidy Dailey walked, Caitlyn Ray reached on a fielder’s choice and Guidry walked to load the bases.
Jones singled in Dailey, while Guidry later stole home to push the Lady Bears ahead, 9-1.
Olivier and Jones converted a double steal that scored Jones for the final Church Point run of the game.
Eunice scored a run in the top of the seventh as Cassie Thomas and Mire both walked, while Madison Cormier was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Thomas scored on Fontenot’s two-out single to close the gap to 10-2.
Katlyn Higginbotham earned the win as she struck out eight, walked six, hit two batters and allowed just one hit.
Cormier suffered the loss as she allowed 10 runs on five hits with eight strikeouts, six walks and two hit batsmen.
