The Board of Alderman, the face of an international furor, on Monday night repealed its ordinance banning pit bulls and rottweilers from this Avoyelles Parish community.
An internet campaign had rallied support for a family who owns a pitbull named Zeus, a dog that it does not consider “vicious.”
Mayor Tommy Lemoine said PETA, an animal rights organization, threatened to “shut down” the village if the October action was not reversed.
The council adopted the ban after complaints from some residents about the breeds.
