Dog-fighting ring routed

Suspicious activity complaint leads to arrests, confiscation of cars, dogs

Officials say Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office broke up a tri-state dog fighting ring after a suspicious activity complaint Saturday night.
Responding deputies found more than a dozen cars from Louisana and other states parked in a trashy yard on the southern edge of the city, as well as a fully equipped, lighted canine fighting ring and four pit bulls.
Arrested through Monday were Frank Williams, 30, of Alexandria, John Marshall Daniels, Jr., 34, of Beaumont, Texas, each charged with criminal trespassing and dog fighting. Williams was later charged with filing a false police report after reporting to the Alexandria Police Department that he was the victim of a carjacking and Troy Joseph Day, 32 of Alexandria, charged with criminal trespass, dog fighting, cruelty to animals, resisting arrest by flight and criminal conspiracy.
Deputies dismantled the ring and turned the animals over to the Alexandria Animal Shelter. It is unclear at this time what will happen to the dogs.
Dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
