A man stabbed, beaten and robbed in his Morgan City home early Sunday morning by a group of five is in stable condition following surgery in a New Orleans hospital.
Police were summoned through 911 Sunday at 4:50 a.m. to the 800 block of Levee Road in Morgan City.
There, they found the 33-year-old man beaten, cut and stabbed, Capt. James Blair, Morgan City police spokesman, said.
Blair said evidence indicates the four men and one woman went to the residence in an attempt to contact the victim. When they were unable to, they gained entry to the home and attacked him.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the residence, Blair said.
The investigation revealed two persons of interest who were sought Sunday. At least one of them was known to the victim, Blair said.
Geronimo Ramirez Martinez, 28, of Shaw Drive in Morgan City, and Mariah Ann Grimes, 21, of Spruce Street in Morgan City, were arrested on warrants for armed robbery, aggravated burglary and attempted first degree murder.
Blair did not indicate which of them was known to the victim.
Further, Blair said that evidence was uncovered at various addresses throughout the Morgan City area and that numerous witnesses were interviewed. That led to the identification of three more males who were involved in the incident.
Warrants were issued and the trio was located in Vidor, Texas, where they fled after the attack, Blair said.
Zenen Vasquez, 24, of Spruce Street in Morgan City, Jesus Munoz Perez, 31, of Spruce Street in Morgan City, and Ossiel Munoz Perez, 28, of Fielder’s Court in Houma, each were charged on warrants for armed robbery, aggravated burglary and attempted first degree murder.
Morgan City authorities have to go to Texas to interview the three men, and police will initiate extradition from Texas to Louisiana, Blair said.
