Hay-tractor accident kills man

NEGREET — A 66-year-old Sabine Parish man died Friday when he was crushed by a roll of hay he was lifting with his tractor.
William D. Branam, of Many, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sabine sheriff’s office received a 911 call about 3:30 p.m. reporting the farming accident along Branam Road in the Toledo Bend Reservoir area. Investigators learned Branam was operating a Kubota tractor and moving rolls of hay around on his property when the accident occurred.
Each hay roll measures approximately 6 feet in diameter and 5 feet long and weighs about 1,500 pounds.
A roll rolled backward onto the roof that covered the tractor seat, causing it to pin Branam underneath.
