Junior High student fires gun in school restroom, no one hurt
A 13-year-old boy faces several charges after firing a handgun in a bathroom at Carroll Junior High.
No one was injured in Monday’s incident and the student was booked into a juvenile home on two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of illegal distribution of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of a firearm on school grounds.
Police said a school staff member was outside the bathroom when the shot was fired. The boy left the bathroom and entered a classroom where the staff member took the gun.
Police said the boy reportedly pointed the gun at two students in the hall and threatened them before entering the bathroom.
Officers said it is believed the gun went off while the boy was showing the gun to others in the restroom at the time.
Police said the student allegedly took the gun from his grandfather’s home as protection against a bully.
