One killed, two injured in Algiers drive-by

One man was killed and another man and a girl were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the urban war zone Wednesday night.
The shooting happened about 7 p.m. at Mardi Gras Boulevard and Copernicus Street. The driver, 31, of the target vehicle was killed and two passengers, ages 30 and 14, were injured, police said.
Witnesses said a silver late-model vehicle drove up alongside the target and someone inside opened fire, shooting more than two dozen times. The car was pockmarked with bullet holes as it crashed into a telephone pole.
The busy thoroughfare serves as a major route for Algiers residents to access the West Bank Expressway and other neighborhoods nearby.
