Vehicle strikes three kids walking to school, two killed; driver critically injured

Vehicle rests where it finally came to stop after running over three children on their way to school, killing two of them.

The Louisiana State Police Troop I have identified the motorist suspected of running down three juveniles, killing two and critically injuring the third, as Jeremy J. Abraham, 32, of Breaux Bridge.
Abraham was taken into custody by Breaux Bridge police officers and is currently at Lafayette General Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. A toxicology sample was taken from Abraham and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, according to Troop I investigators, Abraham was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 eastbound on Martin Street as the three juveniles were walking eastbound on Martin St. in the eastbound lane of travel.
For reasons still under investigation, Abraham’s pickup struck the children and then continued east before running off road to the right, entering a ditch and hitting a utility pole and a culvert. The vehicle crossed the intersection at Babineaux Street and reentering the ditch, hitting a second culvert before coming to rest in the eastbound lane of Martin Street.
A 15-year-old girl died at the scene. A 14-year-old girl died at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. And a 13-year-old girl was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with serious injuries.
Troopers continue to examine evidence and interview witnesses with charges against Abraham pending.
