Woman walking killed by coal train

A Vivian woman was killed by a coal train Thursday afternoon while on the tracks’ pedestrian crossing.
The 125-car, four-engine train was traveling south at 30 mph and blew its whistle, but Brenda Martin, 50, did not acknowledge hearing it, according authorities said.
Relatives told investigators Martin had a medical condition that caused her to slip into a daze at times. The engineer told officers the woman never responded to warnings from the whistle.
