Fontenot wins mayor’s post; Soileau elected W4 alderman

Scott Fontenot, 33, won election as Eunice’s youngest mayor by defeating three other candidates in Saturday’s election.
Fontenot, who has been serving as interim mayor since Claud “Rusty” Moody resigned in October, will fill Moody’s unexpired term ending in December 2018.

The 31st Annual Here’s the Beef Cook Off & Trail Ride begins with a trail ride at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Yambilee Ag Arena in Opelousas.
Participation in the trail ride cost $15, which also includes samples at the cook off.

A St. Landry Parish School Board member who said she was going to ask for an investigation into the school system’s hiring practices last month raised a new complaint Thursday about a plan to hire a receptionist.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
