Eunice voters may finally have the last word on who is the mayor to succeed Claud “Rusty” Moody.
Moody’s resignation in October triggered the appointment of Scott Fontenot as interim mayor and a challenge to the former Ward 4 alderman’s candidacy for mayor.
Former St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Capt. Clay Higgins’ resignation revealed a rift between the swaggering Crime Stopper figure and his boss, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, in a very public way.

Eunice police apprehended a 17-year-old Eunice man who escaped as a trusty Feb. 24 on Tuesday in the Point Blue area of Evangeline Parish, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
Fontenot said Connor Atchison was apprehended without incident.

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
