Low prices for wheat, feed grains likely to persist

Low grain prices are not expected to increase soon because of excess supply and lower demand, according to an LSU AgCenter economist who spoke with farmers at a wheat and feed grain meeting on Jan. 21.
“Prices are still under significant pressure,” said Kurt Guidry.

Cajun, Creole showcase planned for National Park Service Centennial at LIberty

The National Park Service and the city of Eunice will celebrate the NPS Centennial in 2016 with an evening of traditional Cajun and Creole music at the Rendez-vous-des Cajuns from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13.

The Mardi Gras spirit is beginning to make its presence felt in Southwest Louisiana and the Tee-Mamou Courir de Mardi Gras had their first organizational meeting of the year recently at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Evangeline Highway just south of Garber Farms.

St. Landry Parish School Board receives ‘good’ audit

The St. Landry Parish School Board’s audit was labeled as “good” by auditors from Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Company, LLC, at a committee meeting Monday.
Auditor Casey Ardoin said the audit was an “unmodified opinion, which is a good opinion.”

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
