Shoplifting case leads Eunice police to seize $10,000 in drugs, guns, drug paraphernalia (updated)

Eunice police say a shoplifting case at the Eunice Walmart led them to a cache of drugs valued at about $10,000, numerous weapons, $2,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia that they seized.
The drugs were mostly crystal meth valued at $9,000 by police, Detective Robert Brickley said

Bridge closed

The Andrepont Bridge, located between Opelousas and Lawtell off of U.S. 190 in St. Landry Parish, is closed for replacement for the next four to six months, according to a notice from St. Landry Parish Government.
The work is part of the Federal-State Off-System Bridge Program.

Rep. Phillip DeVillier, R-Eunice, said help is needed is to deal with decrepit buildings in Eunice and employers need information about job opportunities.

Obituaries

Irice Ann Darbonne Lavergne passed away on Thursday November 17, 2016 at the age of 73.
Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
